Council approves new academic dates

At its March 22 meeting, the University Council approved changes to the 2013-2014 academic calendar.

The new calendar ensures that both fall and spring semesters start on Mondays, Aug. 12 and Jan. 7, respectively, by condensing student orientation and advisement into one day at the start of the spring 2014 semester.

The body also voted to approve a first reading of amendments to its bylaws. Most revisions were aesthetic, but the proposal included changes in the ways in which items may be added to the University Council’s agenda. The changes, which can be viewed online as part of the meeting’s agenda at https://apps.reg.uga.edu/UniversityCouncil/, require a second vote before they take effect.

Council members also approved new majors in biostatistics (M.S. and Ph.D.) and a new major in student affairs leadership (Ed.D.) to be offered on the Griffin campus.
