David Moorhead and Chuck Bargeron, Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit Piedmont

David Moorhead, professor of silviculture, and Chuck Bargeron, technology director at the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, received $15,000 from the Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit Piedmont to develop a smartphone application for the National Park Service that will help park visitors identify and report invasive plants. The application will allow users to take photos and map locations of non-native plant species, then send the information to park staff, alerting them to areas that need aggressive plant management.  Moorhead and Bargeron are co-principal investigators, and Bargeron is also the lead developer for the project, which is expected to be completed by early 2014.
