International students at U.S. institutions want more feedback, more examples of assignments, and for professors to make more of an attempt to understand their culture and perspective, according to a new survey from ELS Educational Services.
Writing assignments and excessive reading proved difficult for more than half of the survey’s undergraduate and graduate respondents, according to an article in Inside Higher Ed. Respondents also found participating in class presentations and discussions to be uncomfortable. The findings of the survey are particularly relevant now that the number of international students attending U.S. institutions is over 1 million.
