Eric Varner, an associate professor of art history at Emory University, will discuss “Golden Excess: Nero’s Portraits, the Cult of Luxury and the Rise of the Second Sophistic” March 20 at 5:30 p.m. in Room S150 of the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Open free to the public, the presentation is part of the Association of Graduate Art Students lecture series.
Varner received his doctorate in classical archaeology from Yale University. He is the author of Mutilation and Transformation: Damnatio Memoriae and Roman Imperial Portraiture Portraiture.
