Encyclopedia receives top honors

The New Georgia Encyclopedia, a digital reference guide to all aspects of the Peach State, recently grabbed its third national honor in two years with the 2005 Helen and Martin Schwartz Prize for Public Humanities Programs. Available online (www.georgiaencyclopedia.org), the New Georgia Encyclopedia, is a project of the Georgia Humanities Council in partnership with the Office of the Governor, the University of Georgia Press and the University System of -Georgia/GALILEO.

The Schwartz Prize is a national award that recognizes the most creative and outstanding example of projects undertaken by state humanities councils. In October, the NGE was honored by the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board for “Excellence in Documenting Georgia’s History.”  Earlier in 2005, Library Journal, considered to be the foremost publication on reference sources in the U.S., honored the NGE with its “Best Reference Source on the Web for 2004.”
