Athens, Ga. – Ralph DiClemente, associate director of the Emory Center for AIDS Research, will deliver the second lecture of the University of Georgia Bernard B. Ramsey Lecture Series on March 6 at 4:30 p.m. Titled “Sex, Media, and HIV/STDs: The Evolution of Prevention Strategies in the Media,” the lecture will be held in the Cindy Rooker Fireside Lounge in John W. Rooker Hall in UGA’s East Campus Village.
DiClemente is the Charles Howard Candler Professor of Public Health at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. He holds concurrent appointments as professor in the departments of medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry and nursing at Emory ‘s School of Medicine. Most recently, he served as chair of the Rollins School’s department of behavioral sciences and health education.
DiClemente’s area of expertise is in the development and evaluation of prevention programs tailored to African-American adolescents and young adults. He has published extensively in the area of HIV/STI prevention, particularly among African-American adolescents and young adults, as well as in the area of partner violence.
He is president of the Georgia Chapter of the Society for Adolescent Medicine and an executive board member of the American Sexually Transmitted Disease Association. He is also on the Board of Scientific Counselors to the CDC Center for Infectious Diseases and the National Advisory Council for the National Institute of Mental Health.
DiClemente was trained as a health psychologist at the University of California-San Francisco where he received his Ph.D. in 1984 after completing an MSPH at the Harvard School of Public Health and his undergraduate degree at the City University of New York.

The annual lectures of the Bernard B. Ramsey Lecture Series are hosted by the department of health promotion and behavior in the College of Public Health and department of kinesiology in the College of Education. The lecture series honors the university’s most generous individual benefactor, Bernard B. Ramsey. During his lifetime, Ramsey, who graduated from UGA’s business college in 1937, donated more than $33 million to the university.
