Fallows passes away at age 60

Noel Fallows

Noel Fallows, associate provost for global engagement, passed away Dec. 29. He was 60.

Fallows came to UGA as a graduate student in 1984, earning a Master of Arts degree in 1986. He went on to earn a doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1991.

Fallows returned to UGA in 1992 as a faculty member in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences’ Romance languages department. He served as head of that department and as an associate dean in Franklin College.

His passion for international programs led to his position as associate provost for global engagement. In that position, he oversaw study abroad and field research programs, scholarship and grant programs, and immigration services for international students and faculty.

A noted scholar in medieval Spanish literature, Fallows published many books, articles and other publications and received numerous awads.

Fallows is survived by his wife, Kristin Pope.
