Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Alumni Association will host First Friday: A Day with the Dawgs on Friday, Aug. 31.
Deborah Dietzler, executive director of the alumni association, said this year’s event is a departure from past years. “First Friday used to be held in Stegeman Coliseum, but we decided this year to have a day-long celebration of the Bulldog spirit,” Dietzler said.
The celebration begins with the Bulldog Breakfast Club at 8 a.m. in the Wray-Nicholson House. It will be hosted by UGA Football Coach Mark Richt and former Bulldogs David Jacobs and Matt Stinchcomb. Seating is limited to the first 200 alumni association members who purchase tickets. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased online at www.alumni.uga.edu/alumni.
Afternoon events at the Tate Center Plaza include Athletic Director Damon Evans giving away First Friday prizes, such as T-shirts, beads and mini footballs; and Athens radio stations, Bulldog 103 and Magic 102, broadcasting live at Tate Plaza from 2 – 4 p.m. and 4 – 6 p.m. respectively.
Bulldog greats Dan Magill and Loran Smith will be signing their books from 5 – 7 p.m. at the UGA Bookstore.
First Friday culminates with a 7 p.m. pep rally at Tate Plaza where the UGA cheerleaders, Hairy Dawg and the Redcoat pep band will perform. Atlanta’s CBS 46 sport director Gil Tyree will emcee the event. There will be more First Friday prizes, including a Georgia/Florida prize package.
