Broadening its reach, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation pledged to contribute $122 million to needy students in Washington, D.C., through college scholarships, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.
The money, which will fund college for more than 2,000 students, is going to the D.C. College Success Foundation and the D.C. College Access Program. Students who receive the scholarships are selected as high school juniors based on their commitment to education, which does not necessarily mean grades or standardized test scores.
