Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia School of Law recently took home the championship trophy and the Best Brief Award in the Intrastate Moot Court Competition, which has teams from all five of the state’s law schools vying for first. This is the fifth consecutive year UGA has won this competition and the seventh consecutive year it has earned the best brief title.
Georgia Law defeated Mercer University in the semifinal round and Georgia State University in the final round. The championship team was comprised of second-year students M. Gino Brogdon, Yvonne S. Godfrey and Amanda M. Waide. Also representing UGA in the competition were second-year students David S. Ballard, Meghan B. Callier and Christopher F. Schaefer.
“Once again, Georgia Law proved to have some of the best advocates in the state,” said Director of Advocacy Kellie Casey Monk. “The competition between Georgia schools can be intense, but our students enjoy the rivalry each year. I was also especially impressed with how supportive our students were of each other. Once one of our teams was eliminated, the members of that team turned their attention to encouraging and helping the other UGA team succeed.”
Coaching the teams were third-year law students Sean P. Kane and Elizabeth R. Story.
Additionally, Georgia Law won first place in the Evan A. Evans Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition, hosted by the University of Wisconsin at Madison. The team, made up of second-year students Shemanne T. Davis and Meredith C. Lee, defeated New York University, the University of California at Hastings and the University of Brooklyn to earn this top award. Lee also took home the individual award for best oralist. Coaching the duo was third-year law student William T. “Bill” Bozin.
