The Georgia Museum of Art has released Neighboring Voices: The Decorative Culture of Our Southern Cousins, edited by Dale L. Couch, adjunct curator of decorative arts.

This volume comprises papers from the fifth Henry D. Green Symposium for the Decorative Arts, held on campus in January 2010. The theme, “Neighboring Voices,” emphasizes the richness of Southern material culture within as well as outside Georgia.

Topics include the development of the collection of objects from Georgia at the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts, Haviland Limoges china, painted furniture, Alabama pottery’s Georgia connections, the Charleston silversmith Rev. John Mood and the history of White Oak Plantation in Oglethorpe County.

The volume features essays by Joey Brackner, Carol Crowe Carraco, Linda Chesnut, Charlotte Crabtree, Robert Doares and Barbara Wood, Robert Leath and June Lucas.

The symposium is held every other year (the sixth is scheduled for Feb. 2-4), and its proceedings have been published regularly.
