The Hugh Hodgson School of Music will present its annual holiday concerts Nov. 29-30 at 8 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $25, $5 for students.
The concerts will bring together the UGA Symphony Orchestra and six choral ensembles: the Hodgson Singers, University Chorus, Men’s Glee Club, Women’s Glee Club, African-American Choral Ensemble and Collegium Musicum. The nearly 300 student singers and instrumentalists will perform new and familiar seasonal songs including Hymn to the Virgin, A Christmas Festival, Amid the Cold of Winter, selections from Weihnachts-Oratorium, The Many Moods of Christmas, Overture to Hansel and Gretel, There is a Flower, Go Where I Send Thee, The Twelve Days of Christmas and an audience sing-along of O Come All Ye Faithful.
Mark Cedel, professor and director of orchestral activities, will conduct.
“The concerts have become a staple of the holiday season and remain some of our most popular performances each year,” said Dale Monson, director of the music school. “The joyful choral and orchestral music we bring to the halls each year—much of it known and familiar—rekindles the cheer and goodwill we all feel around the holidays.”
The program is part of the 2nd Thursday Scholarship Concert Series that benefits scholarships and assistantships for students.
Tickets are available at the Performing Arts Center box office at 706-542-4400 or at pac.uga.edu.
