Information security will host computer, network course

UGA’s Office of Information Security has partnered with the SANS Institute to bring a six-day introductory course in computer and network security to campus. “SANS Security Essentials” is being offered to information technology professionals and other interested individuals who wish to enhance their IT security skills.

The six-day course begins Feb. 12. Topics covered include networking concepts, defense-in-depth, Internet security technologies, secure communications, Windows security and Unix security. Registration deadline is Jan. 11.

The Office of Information Security also will offer an online security awareness course to all UGA students, faculty and staff this fall. The online course will be free of charge and will teach participants with little or no experience important concepts and technology that every computer and Internet user should know. Availability of the online security course will be announced later.
