International Street Festival brings cultural variety to downtown Athens

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia International Student Life office will host the 15th Annual International Street Festival on April 6 from noon-5 p.m. on College Avenue in downtown Athens.

More than 35 international and multicultural student organizations will sponsor interactive cultural displays as well as musical and dance performances. The festival is free and open to the public.

“The International Street Festival is designed to promote cultural diversity and awareness among international and university students and the Athens and surrounding communities in a fun, festive and educational environment,” said Leigh Poole, associate director of student life. “Every year, the festival attracts thousands of participants and visitors, and we are looking forward to another amazing event in 2013.”

The ISL office was formed in 1997 to support UGA’s goal of fostering a campus climate that appreciates and promotes an interdependent global society. The office strives to create a welcoming environment by providing opportunities for the interaction of international students with U.S. students.

Some of ISL’s programs and services include international orientation, advising for international student organizations, tax-preparation assistance, off-campus housing support, cross-cultural adjustment counseling and individual student advising.

International Student Life is a unit within UGA’s Division of Student Affairs. For more information, call 706/542-5867 or see http://isl.uga.edu/.
