Italian Villa highlights Patrons Lecture

The Friends of the Georgia Museum of Art and the Friends of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia will present “Villa Cornaro: A Palladian Masterwork” as the 2007 Patrons Lecture at 2 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Georgia Museum of Art.

Sally and Carl Gable, owners of Villa Cornaro, are the featured speakers. Tickets to the lecture and dessert reception are $25 per person or $40 for a couple. Patron tickets—which include admission to the lecture, dessert reception, a special luncheon in the Gables’ honor and their book Palladian Days: Finding a New Life in a Venetian Country Home—are $100 per person or $175 for a couple.

In the late 1980s, the Gables were looking to purchase a new vacation retreat in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Their attention soon turned, however, to Villa Cornaro, a 450-year-old Palladian villa near Venice, Italy. The Atlanta couple purchased the historic property and set out to renovate it.

Sally Gable is a church music director and has served on the boards of Radcliffe College and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Carl Gable, a lawyer and businessman, has served on the boards of the Spoleto Festival USA and the Center for Palladian Studies in America.
