Kang Li and National Science Foundation

Kang Li, an associate professor of computer science in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, received $440,725 from the National Science Foundation to improve the security of cloud computing, which allows users to run applications and access files over the Internet. Li and his students are designing software tools that automatically can detect flaws in virtual machines and cloud services, reducing the risk for attacks that threaten a user’s security. The project also integrates a number of educational and outreach activities, including a new course on vulnerability detection and troubleshooting in cloud and virtualized environments, development of events that enhance cybersecurity awareness and recruit students to work on security and privacy research, and participation in community organizations related to information technology and security.
