Lamar Dodd School of Art hosts traveling video project and solo faculty exhibition

Two multimedia exhibitions are being held at the Lamar Dodd School of Art this month.

The traveling Urban Video Project with an Athens-specific exhibition is on display until Aug. 19, and Her Flock,  by  Martijn van Wagtendonk will be shown
Aug. 13–Sept. 23.

The Avalanche Collective, comprised of multimedia artists Blake Carrington, Christopher Gianunzio and Colin Todd, spent a week in Athens gathering raw visual and audio footage for the Urban Video Project.

A series of video and sound installations, the Urban Video Project explores the notions of place, identity, mapping and the ubiquitous presence of surveillance cameras in the contemporary urban environment.

The exhibition at UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art will be the New York-based group’s first in the South.

Concluding the summer interlude season at the art school’s main gallery, Dutch-born, Athens-based artist Martijn van Wagtendonk will showcase his large-scale solo exhibition, Her Flock.

A gallery talk about the exhibition will be held Aug. 21 from 5:30–7 p.m.

Sculptural, cinematic and kinetic assemblages make up the exhibition, which encompasses the architectural elements of the gallery including a nearly 30-foot high vault.

Van Wagtendonk is assistant professor of art in studio foundations at the art school, where he has been on faculty since 2004.

The art school’s main gallery is located in the Visual Arts Building, 285 S. Jackson St. The gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
