Rhode Island College recently settled a lawsuit with a student group that claimed the institution violated its free speech rights by removing signs it hung near a campus entrance, the Chronicle of Higher Education reported.
The college agreed to pay $5,000 to the group and $6,350 in legal fees for removing the signs, which officials said they did because the signs were placed in an area visible to the ongoing traffic—not because of the message, which protested pharmacists who refused to fill prescriptions for contraceptives.
