Legal symposium will examine dispute resolution

The School of Law will bring leaders in the arbitration field to campus Jan. 30 to explore future changes to the area of dispute resolution.

Sponsored by the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law, the Dean Rusk Center and the American Society of International Law, the symposium will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Larry Walker Room of Dean Rusk Hall.

It is open to the public, but pre-registration is requested. For more information or to RSVP by Jan. 28, visit www.uga.edu/ruskcenter/arbitration.html.

Ball, a third-year law student and conference co-organizer.

The New York Convention is considered the foundational instrument guiding international commercial dispute resolution.

Entitled “International Commercial Arbitration: 50 Years After the New York Convention,” the symposium will feature Gary Born, international dispute resolution authority, as the keynote speaker.

He will introduce his new treatise on international commercial arbitration.

Other conference presenters include Robert B. Davidson, executive director of Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services; Anne Marie Whitesell, former secretary general of the International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration; and William K. Slate II, president and CEO of the American Arbitration Association.

Additionally, George A. Bermann, a law professor at Columbia University, will discuss the status of the American Law Institute’s Restatement on International Commercial Arbitration.

Planned panel discussions include “The New York Convention-the Next 50 Years,” “Federal Arbitration
