Mark Crispin Miller to deliver Leighton Ballew Lecture at UGA

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia’s English Department presents Mark Crispin Miller as this year’s Leighton Ballew Distinguished Lecturer. The lecture, entitled “Bush/Cheney’s War on the Enlightenment,” will be held in Park Hall, room 265, on Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Miller is a professor of media studies at New York University and is a noted public intellectual and media reform activist. He is author of several books, including Boxed In: The Culture of Television, Mad Scientists: The Secret History of Modern Propaganda, The Bush Dyslexicon: Observations on a National Disorder, Cruel and Unusual: Bush/Cheney’s New World Order, and most recently, Fooled Again: How the Right Stole the 2004 Election & Why They’ll Steal the Next One Too (Unless We Stop Them).

The Leighton M. Ballew Lecture Series was established through a bequest and commemorates Leighton M. Ballew, chair of the drama (now theatre and film studies) department for over forty years. The fund supports a lecture series within the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences. The series is arranged, in alternate years, by the department of English and by the department of theatre and film studies.
