Media advisory: Georgia School Superintendent Kathy Cox to speak about the new state standards

Athens, Ga. – State School Superintendent Kathy Cox will speak to more than 70 Northeast Georgia educators about the new Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) for Mathematics at a noon luncheon on Friday, March 21 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.

Janet Davis, state mathematics program manager, will join Cox in answering questions about the new curriculum.

Invitees include University of Georgia administrators; faculty and graduate students from the departments of mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education; school district leaders; and guests from the Georgia Department of Education. Media are also welcome to attend. The Partnership for Reform in Science and Mathematics, is sponsoring the event. PRISM is initiative, funded by a $34.6 million grant from the National Science Foundation which strives to raise student achievement in science and mathematics in Georgia.
