Athens, Ga. – The first class of medical students trained in Athens as part of the Georgia Regents University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership will participate in a Match Day ceremony on March 21. At noon, 38 members of the class of 2014 will open envelopes revealing where they will spend the residency portion of their medical education.
The ceremony will be held in George Hall on the UGA Health Sciences Campus. Doors will open at 11:45 a.m. Free parking is available in the parking lot adjacent to Miller Hall, accessible when entering campus off Oglethorpe Avenue.
Access to graduate medical training programs, such as residencies, is a competitive process known as “The Match.” Senior medical students begin the application process at the start of the fourth year of medical school. After applications and interviews, both medical students and residency programs create ranked lists of their preferences. The National Resident Matching Program compares lists and makes the match. On the third Friday of each March, the results are announced.
