Media Advisory: South African diplomat to speak on UGA campus

Athens, Ga. – Derick Moyo, Deputy Chief of Mission at the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C. will be speaking on the UGA campus on Thursday, March 8, at 8 a.m. Entitled “Democracy in South Africa,” Moyo’s remarks will be made in Room 213 in the Student Learning Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Moyo has been the Deputy Chief of Mission at the South African Embassy since March 2005. Prior to this, Moyo served as Consul General in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he participated in the SACU-MERCOSUL free trade negotiations and meetings for the establishment of the IBSA (India, Brazil & South Africa) Tri-Nation Cooperation Agreement.

Moyo will be in Georgia to receive the Delta Prize for Global Understanding on behalf of Nelson Mandela.

The Delta Prize for Global Understanding was co-founded in 1997 by Gary Bertsch, director of UGA’s Center for International Trade and Security and Betty Jean Craige, director of UGA’s Willson Center for Humanities and Arts.
