Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication is conducting a simulated news event as part of its multimedia day training in a management seminar for college newspaper editors. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 28 from 3 until 4:30 p.m. and will involve the simulated removal of a suspicious package from and the evacuation of the Center for Teaching and Learning offices in the Psychology-Journalism Plaza.
The event is being conducted in cooperation with UGA Police and the Office of Public Affairs.
As part of the simulation, student journalists will be exposed to a crowd filled with rumors, employees being evacuated from an alleged high-threat area and UGA law enforcement and public relations personnel who will conduct a news conference to discuss the event. The students will be required to write and file stories after the news conference.
