Miss UGA Scholarship Pageant set for Jan. 17

Athens, Ga. – The 2015 Miss University of Georgia Scholarship Pageant will be held on Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, the pageant is an official preliminary pageant for the Miss America Organization.

Eighteen students will compete for more than $3,000 in scholarships and prizes.

The contestants, their class standings, majors and hometowns are as follows:

Autumn Adams, fourth year, biology, Lilburn.
Gabrielle Clifford, third year, public relations, Powder Springs.

Alexius Davis, first year, mathematics education, Sylvester.
Caroline DeSandre, first year, animal health, Alpharetta.
Madison Giddens, third year, communication studies, Sylvester
Courtney Giebler, doctoral student, pharmacy, Fayetteville.
Devin Gooden, third year, business management, Decatur.
Hanna Holley, second year, digital broadcast journalism, Dublin.
Kierra Jarman, first year, mass media arts, Stone Mountain.
Kayla Kirkland, second year, pharmacy, Millen.
Benjie Klouda, third year, digital broadcast journalism, Trion.
Destiny Levant, third year, early childhood education, Reidsville.
MacKenzie Marable, second year, public relations, Rome.
Lindsay Quandt, fourth year, marketing and international business, Peachtree City.
McCall Stiles, fourth year, business management, Athens.
Madison Turner, third year, political science and criminal justice, Suwanee.
Alexandria Van Dyke, second year, sports management, Albany.
Morgan Nicole Watson, third year, biochemistry and molecular biology, Acworth.

The pageant will be emceed by Emily Cook, Miss Georgia 2009, and musician Carson Hand. Adeline Kenerly, Miss UGA 2014, will make special appearances and will perform.

Miss UGA’s Outstanding Teen 2015 also will be crowned during the pageant. Meri Ellis Hunt, 16, of Acworth, was appointed to the position in November.

The contestant who is crowned Miss UGA 2015 will compete in the Miss Georgia Pageant in late spring. The winner of that pageant will go on to represent Georgia in the 2016 Miss America Pageant.

The Miss America Organization, established in 1921, is a nonprofit civic corporation. The organization represents the largest private scholarship foundation for women in the U.S, at the local, state and national levels. Scholarship assistance totaling more than $40 million is available to contestants.

Tickets are $15, or $10 for students with valid UGACards who pay activity fees on the Athens campus. They are available at the Tate Student Center Cashier Window, by calling 706-542-8074 or at the Fine Arts box office on the evening of the pageant.

The Miss UGA Scholarship Pageant is a program within UGA’s Division of Student Affairs.
