A Los Angeles Times story about federal oversight allowing non-walking cattle or “downers,” into the U.S. meat supply quoted Michael Doyle, director of UGA’s Center for Food Safety.

“If it’s that apparent, as we saw on the tapes, the USDA inspector should have responded to that downer animal,” said Doyle, who is also a professor of food microbiology.
