More students in Asia taking GRE

The number of students in Asia, in particular India, taking the Graduate Record Examinations rose sharply in 2013, according to a story in The Chronicle of Higher Education. The GRE is the most common entrance test for U.S. graduate school programs.

More than 90,000 GRE tests were taken by Indian students in 2013. That’s a 70 percent increase from the previous year.

The increase in GRE test attempts in India coincides with a 2013 report from the Council of Graduate Schools, which documented a 40 percent increase in first-time graduate enrollments from India in 2012-2013.

The number of GRE tests in Asia overall increased by 35 percent; tests taken in the U.S. rose by 5 percent, according to the Chronicle.
