The City University of New York’s board of trustees approved a plan to establish the New Community College that will utilize a new business model for delivering higher education to an expanding student population, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.
The college, which is slated to begin operation in fall 2012 with 500 students, will offer accelerated studies in fields with readily available jobs. Students will be required to attend classes full time, and majors will be tailored to work-force needs. Within a few years, college officials plan to enroll as many as 3,000 students, the Chronicle reported.
