College rankings have long been a consideration for students and their parents when selecting a school.
Now, lists that rank colleges according to value are on the rise, according to a story by The New York Times.
The rankings’ popularity come at a time when President Barack Obama has called for a plan to assess colleges and universities based on affordability and value.
The rub?
Value has many meanings.
The myriad lists—including those from Forbes Magazine, The Princeton Review and U.S. News&World Report—arry disparate measures with some based largely on costs or available subsidies and others based on graduate income or academic rankings, according to The Times.
