Observatory open house

The department of physics and astronomy will host its monthly observatory open house and star gazing on April 22 from 9 p.m. until approximately 10 p.m. on the fourth floor of the physics building.

The university’s 24-inch telescope, which is housed in the department’s dome, and several smaller telescopes, which will be located on the roof of the building, will be trained on the planet Saturn, above the eastern horizon; the Orion Nebula, a star forming region above the western horizon; a sky filled with stars and constellations; and other astronomical sights. Faculty and students from the physics and astronomy department will be on hand to point out sightings and answer star gazers’ questions.

Free parking is available immediately to the west and south of the physics building. More information is available online at www.physast.uga.edu/observatory/schedule.
