Athens, Ga. – “For the Love of Records,” an open house at the University of Georgia Records Center, will be held Feb. 13 from 3-6 p.m.
Tours of the facilities will be offered. UGA staff responsible for office records are invited to attend the event to learn about records retention policies and the center’s storage and shredding services.
Confidential records related to UGA can be stored or shredded at the center for free. The University System of Georgia Board of Regents has requirements for how long an institution must maintain a particular record-from check requests to committee records, equipment inventories to correspondence-to meet legal requirements.
Records designated as permanent are transferred to University Archives for long-term preservation.
For those documents not requiring permanent storage, a representative of American Security Shredding, with whom the university contracts to shred documents, is scheduled to attend. Attendees should not bring records to the event.
The UGA Records Center is located at the corner of South Milledge Avenue and Whitehall Road.
