Pharmacy professor receives $74,000 from NIH

Rajgopal Govindarajan, an associate professor of pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences in the College of Pharmacy, received $74,000 from the National Institutes of Health to study a transport protein implicated in a variety of skin and musculoskeletal diseases. Some of these diseases cause hardening or darkening of the skin, stunted growth, heart abnormalities and glandular disorders. Govindarajan’s research group will use a specially designed mouse model to better understand how mutations of this protein affect health and what steps may be taken to reverse the progression of various diseases associated with those mutations.
