Presidential search committee to hold on-campus forum

Athens, Ga. – Two members of the search committee charged with identifying the candidates who could be the next president of the University of Georgia will hold a forum on Sept. 26 from 3-4 p.m. in the Tate Student Center Theater.

University System of Georgia Regent Larry Walker, who chairs the presidential search committee, and Bill Funk of the search firm R. William Funk and Associates will participate in the forum, which is open to the public.

According to information on the presidential search website (presidentialsearch.uga.edu/committee-report.html), more than 500 personal letters have been sent, as of July 27, to the search firm’s proprietary mailing list soliciting nominations and recommendations. The firm’s research group is working with Funk to target key individuals across the country. An initial list of some 20 to 30 people will be developed with others added as the search moves forward.

The full search committee is next scheduled to meet on Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. at the Georgia Department of Economic Development in Atlanta. During the meeting, which is closed to the public, a password-protected website for the committee’s work will be rolled out. At a subsequent meeting, likely in late October, the firm expects to have the pool “complete” and be in a position for the search committee to begin distilling the candidates.
