Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia will award an inaugural President’s Medal to recognize longstanding, extraordinary contributions of former employees who have supported deserving students and meaningful academic programs, advanced research that creatively explored solutions for the challenges of the times and inspired community leaders to engage in enhancing the quality of life of Georgians through their support of UGA.
The medal, conceived by the UGA Emeriti Scholars, will be presented during the 2014 Founders Day program on Jan. 28. The celebration will begin with a luncheon followed by the annual lecture, traditionally delivered by a member of the UGA Emeriti Scholars.
Nominations are now being accepted for the President’s Medal. Nominees must have a connection to the university but cannot be a current UGA employee. Individuals currently serving as appointed and elected officials in local, state or federal positions also are ineligible. The President’s Medal recipient must be willing to be present at the Founders Day celebrations to receive the medal.
Nominations must be received in the UGA Office of the President no later than Nov. 13. Submit a nomination letter, a resume or biography of the nominee and at least two letters of support to the attention of Matthew M. Nominees not selected may be considered for the following two years.
