Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia continues to be one of the best values in public higher education in the U.S. The Princeton Review has ranked UGA eighth in the nation as a “Best Value” public university for 2012, in The Best Value Colleges rankings published Feb. 7.
The Best Value Colleges: 2012 Edition features profiles of 75 public and 75 private institutions of higher education with detailed information about their campus culture, facilities and financial aid offerings. Of the 75 schools in each group, the top 10 colleges are ranked first through tenth, and the remaining 65 are listed in alphabetical order. Ranked, along with UGA, on the Princeton Review’s top 10 list of public colleges are: the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1), the University of Virginia (2), New College of Florida (3), State College of New York at Binghamton (4), the University of Wisconsin (5), the College of William and Mary (6), the University of Florida (7), the University of Washington (9) and the University of Texas at Austin (10).
The Princeton Review selected its “Best Value Colleges” schools based on institutional data and student opinion surveys collected from 650 colleges and universities the company regards as the nation’s academically best undergraduate institutions. The selection process analyzed more than 30 data points covering academics, cost and financial aid. Cost and financial aid data came from the company’s fall 2011 surveys of school administrators. Data on academics came from its fall 2010 through fall 2011 surveys of school administrators. Data from students attending the schools over these years included their assessments of their professors and their satisfaction with their financial aid awards.
UGA has consistently ranked well as a “Best Value” university with the Princeton Review and Kiplinger Personal Finance. Earlier this year, UGA ranked sixth on Kiplinger’s list of 100 best values among public colleges and universities.

The Princeton Review debuted its “Best Value Colleges” list in 2004. It previously published an annual book entitled America’s Best Value Colleges from 2004 to 2007.
