Media advisory: Pulaski County championship basketball game to be played July 16 at UGA

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Office of Institutional Diversity and Archway Partnership will host the 2014 LIFE League Hawkinsville/Pulaski County Basketball Championship Game Day July 16 at UGA’s Ramsey Student Center for Physical Activities.

The event aims to be increase awareness of postsecondary education opportunities for underrepresented students from Pulaski County by showcasing the offerings of the state’s flagship university, and providing direct access to information on how to apply to college. The tournament is the culmination of the LIFE League’s program.

Who: UGA’s Office of Institutional Diversity and Archway Partnership in conjunction with the LIFE League (Hawkinsville/Pulaski County). Speakers include representation from the UGA Office of the President, Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs, Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach, Office of Undergraduate Admissions as well as UGA athletes.

When: Wednesday, July 16,10:45 a.m.-5 p.m.

Where: Athens; UGA: Ramsey Student Center, East Campus Village Commons, Butts-Mehre Athletic Heritage Hall and Zell B. Miller Learning Center.

Details: LIFE League is a program aimed at teaching life skills and encouraging excellence through basketball and programs for at-risk youth in Pulaski County. It was formed by graduates of Pulaski Tomorrow (the local leadership program) who wanted to make an impact in their community.
