Radio station receives three awards from Georgia Association of Broadcasters

WUGA-FM 91.7/97.9 FM, the public radio station operated by UGA in partnership with Georgia Public Broadcasting, received two Gabby Awards and one merit award at the 2012 Georgia Association of Broadcasters Honors Night.

The Gabbys are presented each year to outstanding radio and television stations as well as to individual broadcasters. WUGA’s winners were news anchor John Lorinc, for his reporting on the Christmas album produced by Athens musician John Keane with his daughters, and “Handle With Care,” a weekly program produced and hosted by Telmeko Smith which tells inspiring stories and provides helpful information for people dealing with overwhelming obstacles and challenges in their lives.

In addition, “Just Off the Radar,” a new weekly music series produced and hosted by Joe Silva, received a merit award from the association.

Affiliated with the National Association of Broadcasters, the Georgia Association of Broadcasters is a trade association representing the interests of over-the-air radio and television broadcasters in Georgia.
