Reader participation in newspapers topic of UGA’s Grady College Lecture

Athens, Ga. – Reader participation – in all its forms – is among the most talked about topics in journalism today. Two Morris Communications executives will discuss “Changing Media for Changing Readers: the Morris Model” at the University of Georgia on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Frank M. Denton, vice president for journalism, and Steve Yelvington, whose work for Morris Digital Works concentrates on long-term vision, strategy and innovation, will lecture at 1:30 p.m. in room 150 of the Student Learning Center. A light lunch will be served at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Augusta-based Morris Communications is a national leader in reaching readers in print and online. Come learn how the company’s “participatory” approach is changing the relationship between journalists and the communities they serve.

The next speakers in the Grady College Online Journalism Series will be Gannett executives and editors who will address the information center newsroom on Tuesday, April 4.

The Morris lecture is the third in a four-lecture series organized by the Grady College Department of Journalism’s online journalism committee after surveys showed strong student and faculty interest, according to committee chair John F. Greenman, Carter professor of journalism.

Established in 1915, the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication provides seven undergraduate majors including advertising, broadcast news, magazines, newspapers, public relations, publication management and telecommunication arts. The college offers two graduate degrees, and is home to the Knight Chair in Health and Medical Journalism and the Peabody Awards, internationally recognized as one of the most prestigious prizes for excellence in electronic media.
