Athens, Ga. – Ryan Nesbit, an administrator who has overseen the budget planning process at the University of Georgia for the past 13 years, has been named interim vice president for finance and administration.

Nesbit is currently budget director and senior associate vice president for finance and administration, a position in which he assists in the day-to-day management of all units reporting to the Office of the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration. His appointment as interim vice president is effective July 1 and was announced by UGA President-elect Jere Morehead.

“Ryan’s years of experience at the University of Georgia will ensure that the Office of Finance and Administration will continue to operate efficiently during this transition period,” Morehead said. “I appreciate his willingness to serve in this capacity and plan to appoint a committee to conduct a national search for the university’s next permanent vice president for finance and administration later this summer.”

Tim Burgess, who has served as senior vice president for finance and administration at UGA since 2006, recently announced his intention to retire after nearly 35 years of service in various roles with the state and the university.

As budget director, Nesbit has overseen the university’s annual operating budget as well as its capital budget since 2000. He was named senior associate vice president in 2005 and assumed additional responsibilities supporting the management of the seven divisions of finance and administration, which collectively have nearly 1,600 employees. The Office of Finance and Administration oversees human resources; business and accounting services; auxiliary services such as Campus Transit and Food Services; facilities management; environmental safety; facilities planning; and University Police and emergency preparedness.

Nesbit joined UGA in 1994 in the facilities planning office, where he held several positions and served as its associate director before being named budget director. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Georgia and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The Citadel.
