Several events coming to UGA Presents in November

Classical music, country music and conversations highlight UGA Presents’ virtual fall programming in November. The series of events features a variety of intimate performances online in Studio HH as well a live solo violin recital in Hodgson Concert Hall by Itamar Zorman. Several events are free and don’t require registration or tickets; others require paid admission for in-person and/or online viewing. All events can be accessed on the UGA Performing Arts Center’s website, pac.uga.edu.

“As all of us continue to try to navigate the uncertain and unpredictable world in which we currently find ourselves, the Performing Arts Center is pleased to continue bringing exceptional, relatable and transformative musical experiences and insights from creative artists to our community,” said Jeffrey Martin, director of the Performing Arts Center. “Whether watching from the comfort of a couch at home or the coziness of our socially distanced concert hall, we hope all people will find joy in the programs we have to offer.”

Live music continues in Hodgson Hall this autumn with this special program of solo violin music exploring the connection between music and space that has sparked the curiosity of humans for thousands of years. This 35-minute performance features compositions by Philip Glass, Kaija Saariaho, Eugène-Auguste Ysaÿe and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Limited in-person seating for approximately 15 people will be available (face coverings and social distancing required). The performance can also be livestreamed at pac.uga.edu.

Tickets for the concert are $25 to attend in person or $10 to watch online and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center box office, online at pac.uga.edu or by calling 706-542-4400. Discounted tickets for the performances are available to current UGA students (limit one ticket per student).

Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Front Row: National Artist Series: Arnaud Sussman, violin

Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. through Nov. 16 at 3 p.m.

CMS’ Artist Series continues with acclaimed violinist Arnaud Sussman leading a program of two works: Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 4” and Chausson’s “Concerto in D Major.” This prerecorded performance includes an artist featurette video and a post-event Q&A with co-artistic directors Wu Han and David Finckel (also prerecorded).

Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. or on demand

Wu Han leads a multifaceted career as a concert pianist, co-artistic director of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and cultural entrepreneur. She joins PAC director Jeffrey Martin for a conversation about her thoughts regarding the past, present and future of chamber music.

Nov. 18 at 3 p.m. through Nov. 23 at 3 p.m.

This latest installment in CMS’ artist series highlights pianist Gloria Chien and three influential works by John Field, Liszt and Mendelssohn. This prerecorded performance includes an artist featurette video and a post-event Q&A with co-artistic directors Wu Han and David Finckel (also prerecorded).

Kathy Mattea: From Nashville

Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. through Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Hailed by the Washington Post as “one of Nashville’s finest song interpreters,” Kathy Mattea has enjoyed much success and acclaim during her 35-year career in country, bluegrass and folk music, including two Grammy wins, four CMA Awards, four No. 1 country singles and five gold albums (plus a platinum greatest hits collection). In addition to creating and recording music and performing live on tour, Mattea is increasingly involved with public broadcasting, regularly guest-hosting on NPR’s long-running “Mountain Stage” (sitting in for longtime host Larry Groce), as well as consulting and contributing on screen in Ken Burns’ 2019 documentary “Country Music.”

In this intimate and unique concert filmed exclusively for UGA Presents, Mattea shares songs and stories from Tennessee. A live Q&A with the artist will take place immediately following the premiere on Nov. 20 at approximately 8:15 p.m.
