The British Journal of Social Work recently published the study “Influential Publications in Social Work Discourse: The 100 Most Highly Cited Articles in Disciplinary Journals: 2000-09,” which includes three UGA School of Social Work faculty members.
Brian Bride, associate professor and director of the school’s Ph.D. program, ranked sixth for his 2007 article “Prevalence of secondary traumatic stress among social workers,” published in the journal Social Work. Bride’s teaching and research interests focus on mental health and substance abuse services for special populations, including women, older adults, persons living with HIV/AIDS, persons with co-occurring disorders and traumatized populations.
Betsy Vonk, professor and director of the school’s M.S.W program, ranked 48th for her article “Cultural competence for transracial adoptive parents,” that was published in 2001 in the journal Social Work. Vonk’s current research interests in practice evaluation and transracial adoption grew out of her clinical practice experience, and she has published numerous articles in these areas.
Associate professor Margaret Robinson and Bride ranked 59th for the 2004 article “Development and validation of the Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale,” published in the journal Research on Social Work Practice. Also contributing to the article was Bonnie Yegidis, former dean of the social work school.
Robinson focuses her teaching on social work practice/research, evaluation, family dynamics/practice and women’s issues.
