Spanish professor to present Franklin Visiting Scholar lecture on Oct. 8

Mario André Chandler, an associate professor of Spanish at Oglethorpe University, will deliver the Franklin Visiting Scholar Lecture on Oct. 8.

The event, which will be held at 4 p.m. in room 150 of the Miller Learning Center, is open free to the public. Chandler’s lecture is entitled “Hispanic Sub-Saharan Africa: Equatorial Guinea in Origin, Complexity, Contribution and Diaspora.”

A reception will follow the lecture. There also will be a meet-and-greet reception, which is open to the public, for Chandler on Oct. 7 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the North Tower of the Miller Learning Center.

Chandler, who earned his M.A. and Ph.D. at UGA, is a specialist in medieval and renaissance Spanish literatures and the relations between Spanish-speaking societies and the African Diaspora.

Chandler’s visit is co-sponsored by the department of Romance languages and the Office of Inclusion and Diversity Leadership in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.
