The UGA Performing Arts Center will present the St. Petersburg State Ballet Theatre’s Romeo and Juliet on March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on Baldwin Street. Tickets are $29, $34 and half price for UGA students.
The internationally acclaimed company will present a fully staged production of the classic ballet set to Sergei Prokofiev’s masterful score.
The St. Petersburg State Ballet Theatre is one of the most distinguished classical companies in Russia, occupying a very special place among the ballet theaters of the world.
Since its formation in 1966, the St. Petersburg State Ballet Theatre has toured throughout the world, performing in more than 50 countries to great critical acclaim.
Award-winning choreographer and dancer Yuri Petukhov serves as artistic director of the St. Petersburg State Ballet Theatre. Petukhov created the choreography and libretto for the company’s version of Romeo and Juliet, based on Shakespeare’s classic romantic tragedy.
A pre-concert lecture will be given by Laura Patterson, a music student at UGA. The lecture, which begins 45 minutes prior to the concert, is free and open to the public.
