Stanford becomes first university to raise more than $1B in one year

Stanford University became the first university to raise more than $1 billion in a single year, according to a news release by the Council for Aid to Education.

The report revealed that charitable contributions in the U.S. increased by 2.3 percent in 2012, totaling $31 billion. The historical high is $31.6 billion raised in 2008.

Stanford has raised more than any other university in each of the past eight years. The other top 2012 fundraisers were Harvard ­University ($650 million), Yale University ($544 million), University of Southern California ($492 million) and Columbia University ($490 million). UGA raised more than $102 million in 2012.
