State Botanical Garden hosts annual holiday open house

Athens, Ga. – Botanically-themed holiday décor will highlight an afternoon of festivities as The State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia will host its annual holiday open house, Sunday, Dec. 5, 2 to 5 p.m. in the Visitor Center and Conservatory, 2450 S. Milledge Ave.

Open to the public and free of charge, the event is centered on three musical performances, starting with more than 70 voices of the Georgia Children’s Chorus. Noteworthy, the UGA female a cappella group with 3 CDs and on many national CD compilations, will follow. The afternoon will culminate with the Classic City Band, featuring songs with cast members from Athens Creative Theater’s recent production of “Annie”.

Other highlights of the afternoon include puppet shows and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, featuring $12 photo packages available from professional photographer Mark Parsons. The Garden Gift Shop will be stocked with holiday gift selections, including gardening tools, books, ornaments and locally hand-crafted items. The Gardenside Café will be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; holiday drinks and winter treats will be available until 4:30 p.m.
