Athens, Ga. – The Arch Foundation for the University of Georgia elected Susan C. Waltman of Pelham, New York, to its board of trustees at its recent meeting.
Waltman is executive vice president and general counsel for the Greater New York Hospital Association, which represents more than 250 public and not-for-profit hospitals and continuing care facilities. In that capacity, she is responsible for overseeing GNYHA’s activities in the areas of legal, regulatory, and professional affairs on behalf of its members, with a significant focus on quality and patient safety, corporate compliance, and emergency preparedness and response activities. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from UGA in 1973 and a master of social work degree from UGA in 1975 before earning her juris doctor degree from Columbia University School of Law.
Waltman has been an advisory trustee to the Arch Foundation since 2008, serving on the investment committee as well as the development and public affairs committee. She also serves on the Board of Advisors to the UGA College of Public Health and the UGA Honors Program. She succeeds former Arch Foundation trustee Frederick E. Cooper of Atlanta, who was appointed to the University System of Georgia Board of Regents by Governor Sonny Perdue in August.
“Susan has a long history of supporting the University of Georgia and brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the Arch Foundation Board of Trustees,” said board Chairman Andrew Murphy (Jack) Head. “We thank her for the service she provides to her alma mater and its teaching, research and service mission.”
The Arch Foundation is a private, non-profit corporation that provides UGA with volunteer leadership and assistance in fund raising and fiduciary care for the foundation assets. Gifts to the foundation are used to provide scholarships for superior students, support distinguished faculty scholars, strengthen research and teaching programs and build new facilities.
Waltman is one of 24 elected members of the 32-member trustee board. Other trustees include university officials and faculty, staff, student and alumni representatives.
