The Circle Gallery’s fall 2009 exhibit season opens

Athens, Ga. – The College of Environment and Design’s Circle Gallery will host three unique exhibits this fall, featuring both student and professional artists and designers.

On Sept. 9, the Circle Gallery will present Across the Spectrum – 2009 ASLA Awards, Student and Professional, Regional and National. This exhibit features the award-winning submissions of both students and professionals associated with the University of Georgia, including a project from the Jaeger Company, a landscape architecture firm with offices in Athens and Gainesville. A reception will be held on Friday, Sept. 11, from 5 – 7 p.m. The exhibit closes September 25.

From Oct. 1-30, the Circle Gallery will feature Michael Wilson’s We Are So Lightly Here: Putting Contemporary Musicians in their Place. Wilson is a photographer from Cincinnati who has spent much of his professional life photographing contemporary musicians such as Waylon Jennings, John Hiatt, B.B. King, Emmylou Harris and Lyle Lovett. In this collection of award-winning photographs, Wilson explores musicians within their own landscapes, pondering the relationship between place and creative endeavor. The reception and gallery talk for this exhibit will be Thursday, Oct. 1, from 5 – 7 p.m.

The final exhibit of the fall season is CED professor Cecile L. K. Martin’s graphic media works, Forming Content. In her words, “One of the common aspects of our humanity is the reworking and reconfiguring of our lives. This is the basis for my latest series. Reworking existing imagery into new configurations allows for visually rich and intellectually ambiguous layers of meaning.” The exhibit opens on Nov. 4 and closes Dec. 11, with a reception and gallery talk on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 4 – 6 p.m.

Located at G14 Caldwell Hall, the Circle Gallery shares exhibits that visually stimulate intellectual discourse in the College, the University of Georgia and the greater community. The exhibits are created by students, faculty, alumni and visitors, bringing together diverse viewpoints on how design can shape our communities and our world. All exhibits are free and open to the public.

The College of Environment and Design is the only college of its type in the nation, housing UGA’s programs in Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, Environmental Ethics, and Environmental Planning. CED’s large and diverse faculty, cutting-edge technology, and talented student body recently earned its Bachelor and Master of Landscape Architecture programs first and second national rankings, respectively.
