They always drove Chevrolets

GoMemphis.com, the online version of the Memphis, Tenn. based Commercial Appeal, quoted Hubert McAlexander, a professor of English, in an article about a special reception for McAlexander’s book, Strawberry Plains Audobon Center: Four Centuries of a Mississippi Landscape.

The book traces the history of the Strawberry Fields from their discovery to their eventual donation to the National Audobon Society by the sisters Ruth Finley and Margaret Finley Shackelford, according to the article.

“The reason they could do it was the family always drove Chevrolets,” said McAlexander of the sisters. “Margaret Finley Shackelford never had a color TV. They were too expensive.”
