The president has allocated $150,000 from the President’s Venture Fund to support mission-critical faculty and staff travel in fiscal year 2010, both out-of-state and international with an emphasis on domestic travel. These funds have been transferred to the Provost’s Office for distribution.
To apply, individuals should submit to the appropriate department head or director a completed travel authority a hard paper copy estimating expenses, describing in a brief paragraph the nature of the travel, and providing justification of the importance to the individual’s own work and/or to the university’s advancement.
Venture funds for conference travel will be limited to those faculty and staff who will hold a formal role at the meeting or program: panelist, lecturer, presenter of a paper, moderator, organization officer, etc.
Individuals who have received approval for fiscal year 2010 travel at zero or low cost to the university (for which the traveler is personally paying for business expenses) will be given consideration for Venture Funding. These individuals may resubmit their requests with fully outlined expenses. Funding of such resubmitted requests is contingent upon review and approval by the dean, director or unit head and the senior vice president.
Deans and vice presidents must identify mission-critical requests on the top of the form, clearly marked as “FY10 Venture Fund Travel Request,” and should add confirmation in writing that no other source of funds is available for the request. The account number should be left blank, with the rest of the Travel Authority form fully completed.
Send requests to Academic Fiscal Affairs, 201 Franklin House. All requests will receive a response as to whether funds will be allocated for the travel and the amount of support or whether no support will be given through this process. The notification will be sent to the dean, vice president, CIO, University Librarian or senior vice president of the traveler. Direct any questions about travel allocations from the fund to Academic Fiscal Affairs at (706) 583-0337.
