U.S. medical schools see rise in enrollment of minority students

Enrollment figures in medical schools across the U.S. rose in 2010, and minority students represent the largest rise in gains, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

Overall enrollment grew by 1.5 percent to 18,655 students, made up of a 9 percent increase in Hispanic students, a 2.9 increase among black students and a 24.8 increase of Native American Indians. In related news, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine reported that enrollments rose 6.5 percent, the Chronicle reported.
